Marc Goodwin believes that in most situations you should play your big hands strongly, and he did exactly that at this year’s WSOP, in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em event, by betting his pocket Aces, which turned into quads on the flop, on every street. Marc explains: ‘One of the guys at my table raises pre-flop with Jacks to 450 and I re-raise to 1000 with Aces. He calls. The flop brings two Aces to give me quad Aces. He checks and I decide to bet half the pot to see if I can get action. He flat-calls the bet. The turn brings a Six. He checks again so I bet half the pot again. He calls. The river comes a Three and, I guess, his Jacks are still looking kind of okay to him. He checks, so I ask him how much he has left. He says he has about 2500 so I make a value bet of 800. He calls and says, ‘Go on, show me an Ace.’ I push my cards out and reply, ‘Pick one.’ He turns over an Ace and says, ‘I knew you had it,’ so I turn over the other one as well! It’s important to build a big pot on your big hands.
