The future of Europe’s largest poker tournament The Monte Carlo Millions is in serious doubt after sponsor Prima Poker announced it was mucking the event.

Online gaming giant Microgaming is bringing its poker brand, The Prima Network, and its casino brand, Jackpot Madness, together under the single name of Microgaming.

Unfortunately, for poker-playing lovers of Monaco’s opulent event, Microgaming has said that it will no longer run the $25,000 buy-in tournament.

Unless another big name in poker steps up to the table the tourney will be drawing dead.

Phil Ivey will be one person unhappy with the news. He won both the $25,000 Main Event and the $120,000 seven-man Full Tilt invitational for a total of $1.6m and was keen to come back to Europe to defend his title.
