Despite the crowds, however, one site has shone through with poker punters, as PokerRoom.com has swept to victory in the vote for Poker Site of the Year. In effect, it’s a back-to-back win for the Swedish site, which scooped the same prize at last year’s InsideEdge Awards (the precursor to the UK Gambling Awards). Aside from being a big player (one of the top four worldwide no less), part of the appeal is clearly PokerRoom’s effort to be a bit more ‘fun’ than the competition. It’s got the ‘Pokah!’ community, where you can set up a profile, chat and send messages, as well as new features like Team Play, where you can band together with your mates and compete in poker leagues.
Evidently this extra bit of effort has struck a chord with UK poker fans – something other sites would be well advised to note.
