US grassroots outfit the Heartland Poker Tour is won by student Shane Sigsbee, who collects $206,273

Recent Notre Dame graduate Shane Sigsbee won in the Heartland Poker Tour's televised poker tournament today at Majestic Star Casino and Hotel in Indiana.

Sigsbee was the final player standing out of the 480 poker players, the largest field in Majestic Star's history.

Sigsbee won the Texas No-limit Hold'em poker tournament and $206,273. The twenty-three year old golfer and options trader won the final table today in only forty-two hands, one of the shortest final tables in HPT history.

Sigsbee stated, "This feels pretty good. Now it's off to the golf course."

Sigsbee The collegiate golfer is playing in the 36 hole U.S. Amateur qualifier on Tuesday in Indiana. Once again his father will be watching and cheering on his son. He will also be his caddie. Mr. Sigsbee stated, "I'm very proud of what my son has accomplished. He's a fine young man and a lot of fun to be around."

Sigsbee said, "Options trading and poker are very similar. It's all about managing risk and taking advantage of probabilities."

Majestic Star is a favorite stop on the Heartland Poker Tour. This tournament was another record breaking number of poker players in the main event with 480 entries.

"We always love it when the HPT comes to Majestic," said poker room manager Dominic Niro. "Our players love playing in big tournaments and these are always the biggest tournaments in the Chicagoland area."

For the Heartland Poker Tour, this event marks the half way point on their Season IV schedule of events. The next stop on the tour starts in just a few weeks at Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant Michigan, a beautiful property and a new tour stop for HPT.

HPT co-founder Todd Anderson said, "We've really had a good year so far. We've had eight new champions and record prize pools. We're looking forward to the rest of the year."
