Leg 9 of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour has drawn to a close at the Grosvenor Victoria casino in London, with Canadian Leo Kam taking the £1,000 Main Event spoils.

Lam qualified through a £50 satellite a few weeks earlier, and took that investment all the way to a just under £130,000 pay day and a seat in the Grand Final after a hard fought victory in the 6-day event.

The 26-year old Nobu chef defeated scrap yard merchant Robert Boon after a relatively short heads up battle when his Q-6 proved to be too good for Robert's pocket sixes.

Leo was the chip leader going into the final day and although he lost the lead for much of the final, he regained it at the crucial time and held it for a memorable victory.

Leo is in England on a 2 year work visa, so we should be seeing much more of him on the UK poker circuit during the next twelve months.

Semi-pro player and InsidePoker writer Nick Gibson dominated for much of the final table but lost out in a couple of big pots to eventual runner up Robert Boon.

In his final hand he held A-K versus Boon's pocket eights and although there was an ace on the flop to put him into the lead, an eight on the turn sealed his fate.

433 participants sat down for this tournament, making it by far the biggest leg of the year for the GUKPT, and in just three weeks time the tour will roll on to its next stop in the seaside resort of Blackpool.
